We’re having a Baby!

Family, Uncategorized

I’m so excited to announce that four years later, we are expecting again!! I’m honestly just as surprised as everyone else, and didn’t see this coming.. but we are so excited and anxious for our new arrival.

I knew it immediately. At less than four weeks I felt different, I was exhausted all day long. I felt weird in my stomach and felt pain in my breasts. This was a feeling I was familiar with and last time I felt this Antonio (my first son) joined us. The very next day after it hit me that I was feeling off, we went out and got two tests. I took the first one, only to see one line so I walked out the bathroom and would come back in to see that second line appear. Of course, one test isn’t enough so we took the second one.. still two lines. Four tests later, it was undeniable, I was pregnant.

After the initial shock, came a million questions, then came happiness. Our family was growing, how could we not be happy!? Antonio was definitely happy from the beginning. He’s tired of being an only child (at home) and ready for the big brother role.

Then came the gender battle. I of course was team girl. I mean who else would inherit all my clothes, shoes, purses and beauty things? My husband on the other hand was team boy all the way. He has two boys and was excited to add another to his pack. For our ultrasound we took my sisters, niece and nephew, my mother and of course Antonio and the hubby.

There it was, clear as day baby boy #2 for me, #3 for hubby. Even though I was team girl in the beginning, I honestly had a feeling it was a boy. I feel like you just know. My feeling has been right both times. So here we are now at week 21, more than halfway through; still just as shocked and excited as that first day I took the test, patiently waiting for January 2020.

I have clearly been slacking on writing and updating my website, Instagram and everything else. Hopefully the second half of this pregnancy brings more energy and content. I will blog about the nursery update and try to keep everthing updated.

Thanks for reading and stay tuned for the next posts to come!

Vegetarian Grocery List Checkoff

Food & Health, Food & Health

I constantly get questions like “What foods do you buy for a vegetarian family? Where do you grocery shop? How much waste do you have after the week? So I thought I’d dedicate this post to answer those questions and share some of my fav items to buy weekly. First off, where do I go?

My top stores include:

  • H Mart (or your local Asian market)
  • Aldi
  • Trader Joes
  • Sprouts (similar to Whole Foods)
  • Local Internationals markets (Spanish, Indian or Middle Eastern)

I always start with the produce section. This is where I buy the majority of my items. I would recommend you alternate items weekly so you don’t get tired of the same things and meals. This is a major key in succeeding with this lifestyle. It’s easy to make the same easy recipes over and over until you see someone eating fried chicken and you question your whole life (been there) so keep it exciting, switch it up and you wont feel like your missing out on anything.

Vegetables:

  • Lettuce ( romaine, spinach, spring mix, kale, etc.) – I alternate these a lot.
  • Cabbage (green, red)
  • Carrots (shredded are my fav, or baby ones for dipping)
  • Mushrooms (portabella and shiitake)
  • Broccoli
  • Corn
  • Cauliflower
  • Bean Sprouts
  • Brussel Sprouts
  • Cilantro / Parsley / Thai Basil
  • Onions / Green Onions
  • Celery / Leeks
  • Asparagus
  • Bok Choy
  • Egg Plants
  • Plantain
  • Yuca /  other roots
  • Potato / Sweet Potato
  • Zucchini / Squash
  • Cucumbers
  • Multi- Colored Peppers
  • Jalapeños / Poblanos

I understand these are seasonal so I recommend getting what’s in season that way you get the freshest fruits.

Fruits:

  • Strawberries, Blueberries, Blackberries, Raspberries
  • Avocado
  • Bananas
  • Apples (Fuji, Honeycrisp, Granny Smith are my faves)
  • Citrus (lemons, limes, oranges, blood oranges, bitter oranges, clementine, tangerines, tangelos, and pomelos)
  • Coconut
  • Pomegranate
  • Melons (Water, Cantaloupe, Honeydew)
  • Pineapples
  • Papaya (great for smoothies)
  • Mangos
  • Guava
  • Kiwis
  • Asian Fruits: These are my absolute favorite types, they are so sweet and delicious. They are usually more expensive and harder to find, but totally worth it.

    • Jackfruit – tastes like candy raw or is great for meat substitutes
    • Durian
    • Dragon Fruit – White Flesh, Pink Flesh and Yellow Skin (give them all a try)
    • Lychee / Rambutan / Longan
    • Passionfruit – bursts of sweet goodness
    • Mangosteen (expensive and rare  but so good)
    • Star Fruit
    • Kumquat
    • Tamarind (which is actually very popular in Hispanic Countries as well)

Now to address how much waste we have, it really depends on the week. If we stuck to our goal that week and didn’t eat out, then we generally have minimal waste. Some weeks we just like everyone, either get lazy and don’t want to cook (i.e.; cereal for dinner )or end up eating out. Those weeks we tend to have more waste, but with either week I don’t think the waste is enough to break the bank. I honestly think having the good food in your house makes you want to do good. Just knowing you have the options available at home, makes it easy to want to cook them and lets be honest save some money.

Well that is all y’all! I hope you found this post helpful and I that you saved my list for the next time you go shopping. Let me know if you’ve tried any of items, which ones are your favorites, or if I missed anything you like. I love trying new things and will always give my feedback. Thanks for reading, until next time!

    Spring (Smart) Fashion: Must Haves

    Fashion

    Hello!

It’s me again, and this time I’m here to show you my Spring fashion must haves. I always like researching and planning what my wardrobe will consist of during the upcoming seasons. I typically start my search a couple months ahead of time to give myself time to brainstorm, plan and then shop (aka save up to buy new clothing).

Recently I have tried to be more mindful of the clothes I buy. Although it can be very tempting to give in to fast fashion. Fastfashion; your trendy, cheap clothing in stores who rapidly mass produce clothing causing more landfill. Most have harmful, unsafe work conditions while underpaying their employees. Its easy to buy a cute trendy top for just $9.99 at the mall without thinking about how it got there. If we saw what it actually took to get that shirt on that hanger, a lot of us wouldn’t buy it. This is the same way I feel about the meats at the market ( but that’s a whole other post I could go on and on about).

Here are some things I’m absolutely loving right now and will be rocking all Spring:

Neon everything! – bags, shoes, clothing
Dad shoes aka the ugly chunky shoes; you can dress them up or down (so street style)
Pant suits – solid (bright) colors or plaids
      Turtlenecks
Crossbody bags / reptile bags / woven bags
Cat eye sunnies or really any odd shaped glasses (octagon, square, round, oval)
Hair pins – I loving the big, chunky bedazzled clips and decorated bobby pins
Mom jeans – the higher the waist the better
Day dresses – especially polka dots
Slouch socks; especially the patterned and bedazzled ones
      I’m STILL loving animal prints

What’s on your Spring list!? Any suggestions for me? Let me know on my Instagram .

As always thanks for reading and come back next post!

    The Capsule Wardrobe Pt II

    Fashion, Uncategorized
You can shop this photo here!

The Capsule Wardrobe is back, and better! I have loved updating the wardrobe with the different seasons and slowly adding essential pieces. My current wardrobe is mainly Winter with some Spring pieces I’ve snuck in. I am excited to transition this rack to Spring soon.

Having this rack in my room not only saves me time while I’m heading out, it also lets me be more creative with my outfits. I usually take one day to plan out my outfits for the folowing week. This way I have more time at that moment to try different pieces out and it ends ups giving me outfits I would have never put together if I was in a rush. I also lay out one item and see how many outfits I can make from that one piece.

I thought I’d share my favorite essesntial pieces at the moment. I have found that these items have gotten me through the Fall and Winter Seasons:

    Outerwear:
    (Faux) Fur Vest / Coat
    Long Coat
    Black Leather Jacket
    (Distressed) Denim Jacket

    Clothing:
Different Pattern Pants: Leopard / Striped / Plaid / Corduroy
    Blazer(s) – My fav!
White Button Down Shirt – for layering
Patterned Button Down Shirts- (Animal Print)
Basic Colored Sweater(s) – Turtlenecks are my go to

(Good) Denim In – Skinny / Boyfriend / Cropped
Midi / Maxi Dress – Don’t forget the hosiery!
    Midi / Maxi Skirt – ( pleated…)
T-Shirts – I heart band or logos ones
Jumpsuit – so fun to layer!

    Shoes:
Tennis Shoes -Converse are a classic
    Patented Black Loafers
Mules – I like the low heeled ones
Rain boot- Hunter; need I say more!?
White Booties – all the rave right now- but I think will stick around!

Don’t forget a good handbag and sunnies!

That is all folks! I hope this was helpful to those wanting to start a Capsule Wardrobe. I would definitely reccomend you start small. Go through your closet and eliminate those pieces you havent worn in years and donate them! Also, thrift, thrift, thrift! If you love to shop, thrifting is a small way you still get to shop but help eliminate more clothing waste and save money at the same time.

Thanks for reading! Come back soon to see my Spring Capsule.

Food & Health, Food & Health

Hey y’all! I’m so exited to add a health category to my blog! Here I will post grocery hauls, recipes and healthy food options. My main 2019 resolution was to get back to being vegetarian. Last year I had the same resolution and I made it up to June. I stopped for no good reason other than I gave in to temptation. This year I started two weeks later than I wanted to, but jumped right back in smoothly. This time around I feel it would be easier because we worked out most of the kinks last time. I already know what I like, what I didn’t, where to shop and who has better prices. I constantly got asked what I buy when I go grocery shopping, so I recently did a grocery haul on my IG page, which I added to my highlights section on my profile. I also constantly add recipes I try on my IG stories so check those out as well.

Below I Linked my recent refrigerator pic right after grocery shopping (and organizing for a long time )

I’m also adding some smoothie bowls I’ve made:

Make sure you come back check out my next blog posts, and see what I buy and make next. Also, if you know any recipes I should try let me know!

    Goodbye 2018, Hello 2019!

    About Me

Happy New Year! I can’t believe it’s that time again. I always look forward to the Holidays and New Years, but I always get a little sad when it’s over. 2018 was a great year for me, I finally took a leap and decided to start this blog, which is something I’ve been wanting to do for years now. For 2019, I would like to plan out and set my goals, and see them in writing that way I’m held responsible for them. I would also like to read this at the end of this year and see what goals I accomplished.

As the new year starts, I would like to focus mainly on my mental and physical growth. Get back to a cleaner diet and workout a couple times a week. I want to dedicate more time to my blog and write a minimum of one post a week as well as get some vlogs out. My goal is to grow my page and blog, while making sure I keep my focus on my love for fashion, beauty and home decor.

Traveling more is always a goal of mine, I already have a couple trips planned and I can’t wait to plan some more. I cannot wait to see what 2019 has in store for me, but I also love to look back and see my past work and learn and grow from it.

So, here’s a look at my last year in pics…. ( no particular order, just some highlights)

Did your 2018 goals become reality? What are some goals you made for 2019!? Do you have any blog posts idea you would like to submit? Let me know on here or on my IG ! Thank you for the support I received in my first months as a blogger and I hope you guys stick around to see my posts this year.

    Winter Wardrobe Capsule

    Fashion

The Wardrobe Capsule is a small collection of essential items in your closet. This is my winter collection.

When shopping I tend to go for pieces I know I want in my closet for a long time. I also go for pieces I can style many different ways. My style is versatile, so I want pieces that reflect that. I’ll usually do a haul a couple times a year for different seasons, and then incorporate my older pieces with the new ones.

For my winter capsule I shopped Zara’s Black Friday sale and scored all my items for 30% off. I also tried a new site; Social Eras and got two suits on sale. I was hesitant to try the new site because I’ve never heard of it and wasn’t sure what the quality or sizing would be. The clothes took 2 weeks to get to me. The quality was surprisingly very good, but the sizing was off. I ordered a size up just in case the sizes were off. I got all items in an XL. The jackets fit me good, but pants looked to be a size S with a XL tag. I would order from the site again because of the quality, I’ll just make sure I follow size guidelines and reviews.

I also thrifted some items in this capsule. Thrifting is a great way to score some vintage pieces while saving some money. I love mixing vintage with modern pieces.

Make sure you check back in for my next capsule and as always I will upload my outfits on my IG !

Thanks for reading my blog, and please submit any ideas or recommendations for later blog posts!

    Local Guide: New York

    Local Guides + Travel

One NY trip post is never enough to cover the city, so you can call this NY post part II. After visiting NYC, I had a chance to spend some days north of the city, and I LOVED it. Although NYC, will always be my favorite city, I must say staying in a slower, less busy parts f NY was also nice. Growing up in the city, I never realized how big New York is. I was so consumed by the city, I never saw the charm and beauty other cities in New York had to offer.

Some other places I visited were:

    • Yonkers
    • White Plains
    • Mount Vernon
    • New Rochelle
    • Mamaroneck
    • Nyack
    • Nanuet
    • Stony Point

Most of my time was spent in Stony Point, NY. Small but beautiful Historic Town. While I was there I headed over to Bear Mountain State Park. Which is linked here. I had a great time sight seeing and driving the park.

I of course did some shopping, some places I shopped were The Palisades Mall in Nyack. While there I played in Dave and Busters, ate Nathan’s hotdogs (yumm) and shopped Zara, Uniqlo, H&M and F21. They also have a lot of local / small owned business which are great to get unique pieces. I also visited the Nanuet Shops, an outdoor mall with so much to offer. We stopped in to The Westchester Mall , a beautiful, upscale mall.

Some food spots we hit while there

    • Pops Espresso , in New Rochelle
    • Mount Ivy in Pomona
    • Art Cafe of Nyack
    • We had pizza in two different places in Yonkers, don’t know the name but you can’t really go wrong with Pizza anywhere in NY.

The rest of my time was spent catching up with family. Sometimes staying home with family and spending quality time is all you need.

    The Weekender… New York Edition

    Local Guides + Travel

    Washington Square Park

The second edition of ‘The Weekender’ is here and this might be my favorite edition of all time because it’s about my hometown and best city in the world.. NYC! My family and I came up to New York for Thanksgiving week. I of course starting planning my trip as soon as I found out we were coming. I knew I needed to plan my outfits ahead of time, and that I needed to get a list of places I wanted to hit while being here. My time in the City would be short so I mapped out the destinations and figured out a route that worked best. Anyone who knows me knows how organization makes me happy, I had so much fun picking out the best spots and organizing the route. I constantly get asked how I find the spots I go to for pics, brunch, etc. Yelp ! Yelp saves me every time I don’t know what I want to eat or where to go. It’s also very helpful when I’m out of town and don’t really know the areas. After yelping NYC, browsing IG and remembering my fav childhood spots, I had a plan; Hit lower Manhattan and get those shots!

Lower Manhattan is my absolute fav part of the City. Its home to so much; to name a few:

    • Flat Iron District
    • Union Square
    • Washington Square Park
    • Soho
    • Stuyvesant Town
    • Chinatown
    • Little Italy
    • Battery Park
    • East / West / Greenwich Villages
    • Tribeca

    Here’s my weekend through pics.

    Flat Iron Building

    Washington Square

    Stuyvesant Street, NYC

    New Territories Instagram linked here.

I absolutely loved walking, sight seeing and shopping the city. We then headed North to spend time with family. Other places we saw included Yonkers, New Rochelle, White Plains, Nyack, Stony Point and Black Bear Mountain to name a few. Those pics will be posted in my next post! You can always catch more pics and posts on my IG .

    The Weekender… Charlotte Edition

    Local Guides + Travel

Ahhh the Weekend, my absolute two favorite days of the week. Not only are these my days off, but this is when I have a chance to get dressed up, do a full face of makeup, and go check out all those places I saved on yelp. This weekend I headed out to Charlotte, NC. I love weekend get-a-ways, it’s just enough time to clear your head and change things up a bit. I’m clearly a sucker for a cute coffee shop and anything with a photo op! I like to think of myself as the ‘Weekend Blogger’.

Here’s a recap of my weekend through pics:

We spent our Sunday in Noda, Charlotte’s historic Arts District. It’s know for it’s art (hence the name) with murals covering majority of the streets and buildings. It’s great for brunch, drinks, local shops and even has street vendors. What’s not to love about that!?

We started our Sunday with coffee at The Smelly Cat Coffeehouse a Friends (the tv show) themed coffeeshop.

We then headed to Haberdish. A Southern kitchen restaurant know for their cocktails and killer brunch options.

    The following are pics that I have taken in Noda. I call these;

Hope you all enjoyed the first of many The Weekender Edition. As always, comments, messages and feedback are welcomed here or on my IG. Thanks for visiting !
